About
Nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Mixcoac, Taquería Hermanos Luna embodies the true spirit of Mexico City’s street food culture. For over 30 years, this unassuming taquería has drawn locals and food enthusiasts alike with its authentic, no-frills approach to classic Mexican fare. From the moment you step inside, the aroma of slow-cooked al pastor and suadero fills the air, promising a rich and satisfying culinary experience.
What sets Hermanos Luna apart is its steadfast commitment to tradition. There are no Michelin stars or flashy endorsements here—just honest, well-prepared food that speaks volumes through its simplicity and quality. The legendary al pastor, often considered one of the city’s best, is a standout. Its smoky, tender meat, perfectly balanced with the subtle tang of pineapple, offers a depth of flavor that transports you straight to the heart of Mexico.
Another highlight is the famed gorditas, a beloved staple that foodies rave about. Crispy on the outside yet soft inside, each gordita is generously stuffed with fillings like pastor or suadero, making every bite a hearty celebration of Mexican street cuisine. The crowd favorites extend to more adventurous choices like the brain taco—rich, tender, and surprisingly juicy, it evokes nostalgia and sparks curiosity, just as it did for long-time patron Julianne Tran.
Despite its bustling atmosphere and the steady flow of eager diners, the service remains swift, especially for take-away orders. While seating is limited and lines may form, the wait moves quickly, fueled by the shared enthusiasm of locals and visitors who know this is a place worth hanging around for. The modest setting only enhances the authenticity, allowing you to absorb the lively ambiance and connect with fellow taco lovers.
Economic yet rich in flavor, Taquería Hermanos Luna is a culinary gem that captures the essence of Mexico City's street food tradition. Whether you're craving the best tacos al pastor, hearty gorditas, or daring antojos like the brain taco, this spot promises a genuine, memorable taste journey. It’s more than just a meal—it’s a connection to culture, community, and 30 years of dedicated craftsmanship.
“ I saw good reviews on this place so I just want to check it out. It’s really a fun place and it’s busy but the wait wasn’t long. The food was really good and the service is great. I am glad I had my dinner there. I came back for the brain taco and I really love it. It’s soft and rich and so juicy. I haven’t had pig brain for at least 50 years and I am so glad I enjoyed it today ”
“ The line moves fast so know what you're going to get by the time you get to the front. Gordita de pastor, two of them with everything. ”
“ Service was a bit off; I got ignored for five minutes despite people behind me in line being serviced. I’ve been here many times so maybe it was a one-off situation. Tacos were delicious as always though. Been going here since 2019 and it’s still my favorite place. ”
“ Something people from Mexico City will never agree on is which is the best taco de pastor or suadero in the city. I just found my favorite. This place doesn’t feature on any Netflix series nor does it have any Michelin star or is part of the Michelin guide, yet this is a true Mexico City taco experience. It is located on what used to be the outskirts of the city. But since the city outgrew itself now this place is located in a merging point where people who still have a long way to go to get to their homes and people who live in the area meet. For the same reason prices are meant to be affordable and are kept low. If you want a table you will have to share with someone else, no exceptions, or you can eat while standing. The longaniza, suadero and pastor meats are tender and seasoned just on point. And the gorditas masa is the best of the best. Is it worth taking a detour to meet this place? No, I don’t think so. But if you’re nearby and are curious to taste a good and truly local taqueria then this is your best bet. ”
“ One of the best place to try gorditas. Always crowded and full of foodies. Fast service if you are there for Take Away, however limited seating space and there is always a wait time. Parking is usually on street and is full. Very economical and all items on menu are worth trying ”
